Understanding Block Diagrams: Block diagrams are simplified representations of the components and stages in electronic systems like transmitters and receivers. They are essential tools for visualising and understanding how these systems work. Each block represents a functional unit or stage within the system, showing how signals flow from one part to another.

Key Stages in Simple Transmitters and Receivers:

1. Audio Amplifiers:
   • In a transmitter, the audio amplifier boosts the strength of audio signals (e.g., voice) before they modulate the radio frequency (RF) carrier wave.
   • In a receiver, the audio amplifier increases the strength of the received audio signal so it can drive speakers or headphones.
2. RF Amplifiers:
   • RF amplifiers are used in both transmitters and receivers to increase the power of RF signals.
   • In a transmitter, the RF amplifier boosts the modulated signal to a level suitable for transmission.
   • In a receiver, the RF amplifier enhances weak signals picked up by the antenna to a level where they can be processed further.
3. Mixers:
   • Mixers are used to shift the frequency of signals.
   • In a transmitter, a mixer combines the audio signal with an RF signal to produce a modulated RF signal.
   • In a receiver, a mixer combines the incoming RF signal with a locally generated signal (local oscillator) to produce an intermediate frequency (IF) signal that is easier to process.
