• Principle: The intensity of a radio wave decreases proportionally to the square of the distance from the source. This means that as the distance from the transmitting antenna doubles, the signal strength becomes one-quarter of its original value.

  • Implication: The further the receiver is from the transmitter, the weaker the received signal will be. This attenuation of signal strength limits the effective communication range.

Free-Space Path Loss:

• Concept: Free-space path loss refers to the loss of signal strength that occurs in a line-of-sight path through free space, with no obstacles causing reflection, diffraction, or absorption.
  • Factors: Frequency and distance are the primary factors affecting free-space path loss. Higher frequencies experience greater loss over the same distance compared to lower frequencies.
